About Lorna Bateman
Originally from South Africa, Lorna has lived in the UK for almost 20 years where she works full time as a teacher and designer. Teaching and sharing her designs and embroidery techniques is Lorna’s passion. Her teaching has taken her all over the world including the French Alps, USA and Ireland. She is currently working on her first book ‘Embroidered Country Gardens’ to be published and released by Search Press in the spring of 2019.
She loves all forms of 3-dimensional, raised and textured embroidery and tries to encompass as many of these in her designs as possible. Lorna has a passion for flowers and this shines through in all of her work. She is also an enthusiastic gardener and draws much of her inspiration from her thriving country garden.
Lorna lives and works from her picturesque cottage in rural Hampshire. Most of her stitching and hard work happens from her garden studio ‘The Nest’ accompanied by her faithful cat and watched on by the various feathery garden visitors.
You can find out more about Lorna in this exclusive podcast interview from Fiber Talk which can be listened to here.

Lorna was a wonderful mentor, kind, had great patience, very knowledgeable & I feel honoured to have been taught by such a lady. Lorna had practice pieces of every flower & stitch & explained carefully & precisely to us all the next stage in our work. Lorna kept a watchful eye on us individually & it was her inspiration that encouraged us to work until ‘ light’s out’ every night. Thank you all for your attention to detail, I haven’t stopped talking about my experience since my return home. Wendy McCulloch, Alpine Experience attendee July 2018.
