After the best part of three years’ hard graft, late nights and sore fingers, I was worried that the book might not sell. It turns out I didn’t need to worry as my first book ‘Embroidered Country Gardens’ published by Search Press has flown off the shelves!
Within the first week of release Embroidered Country Gardens was no. 1 in embroidery on UK Amazon and no. 145 of all books on US Amazon! Wow! The launch on Sewing Quarter was a wonderful success, in fact we sold out of all the copies that they had and the signed copies from my own site are selling so fast I’m struggling to keep up with the orders!
Words of courage
I was thrilled to be featured on Mary Corbet’s Needle ‘n Thread blog and felt honoured to be given such a glowing review.
Embroidered Country Gardens is a beautiful book, and it’s a thorough book when it comes to instruction for this type of free-style surface embroidery. The projects in it are all attainable – they’re nothing complicated about any of them, and the instructions are clear and easy to follow.
Sandra is the 2019 Dean of Faculty for the EGA’s Gateway to Stitching Event that I will be teaching at in October. She brought the review to my attention and said: “Mary Corbet praised your book in her Needle ‘N Thread today. She usually includes both “pros” and “cons” when she reviews a book. She had no “cons” to mention. The inclusion of some photos of book pages was a teaser. I am all the more excited to receive my pre-ordered copy.”
Hello Lorna! I'm texting from Brazil just to tell you my book just arrived! It's wonderful!
I have been touched that so many students, customers and embroiders around the world have reached out to share their thoughts on my book with me, but this one in particular had me close to tears. Heather wrote to me to say she had just received her copy:
“My beloved husband died some months ago at home with me after 3 dreadful years of suffering. I haven’t felt like any stitching but your book has already filled me with joy and hope.”
To me, there can be no higher praise that that.
Do please keep sending me in your photos of your finished projects taken from or inspired by my book. It is what makes all the hard work worth it. You can also share your creations on my Facebook page. The picture below comes from the Stitching Sheep by Marlous from the Netherlands. We first met at the Knitting & Stitching Shows several years ago and after purchasing the book she has already completed several projects from it!
Live on TV
If you missed the launch of ‘Embroidered Country Gardens’ on Sewing Quarter then you can watch it now on YouTube. You can see many of the finished projects from the book and I also demonstrate some of the floral techniques included inside including how to stitch daffodils.
As with all things despite careful proofing by numerous people little mistakes have crept into the final copy. There are some amends to several projects including the Bee Alert Tape Measure Cover and Vintage Gardener Sewing Bag. You can see all the amends on the Search Press website or download the PDF here.
